CAVRA sends “floods” of thanks to our players

With funding from our players, The Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association was able to buy much-needed water and safety equipment for rescue purposes.
In 1998, flooding in Cardiff looked like it might overwhelm emergency services. To this day, flooding remains a serious and sometimes deadly problem for Wales and the Midlands.
In response to the 1998 floods, the voluntary search and rescue organisation Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association (CAVRA) was created – and with the help of our players, they now have the safety equipment they need to continue their search & rescue work in the community.
CAVRA provides frontline assistance to the official Emergency Services and HM Coastguard. CAVRA’s members are highly trained in specialist skills like emergency first aid and the use of radio communications. They provide active support in situations like searches for missing persons and times of adverse weather conditions, natural disasters or civil emergencies.
In 2011, People’s Postcode Trust provided £3,787 to CAVRA to purchase much-needed water and safety equipment for rescue purposes. With the funds, the group was able to buy personal flotation devices, helmets, throw bags and rescue poles that are required to conduct safe rescues and respond to major flooding incidents.
100% of the funding for People’s Postcode Trust grants comes from players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. The Trust distributes funds to small organisations, community groups and registered charities throughout Great Britain. We’re proud that our players are making such a huge difference to so many people and their communities!
