Celebrities Gear up for Great North Run
Two of the region’s most famous footballing sons… Street Prize Presenter from the North’s own charity lottery…and a bunch of fundraisers from a Teesside charity are all gearing up for the Great North Run.
Bernie Slaven and Micky Horswill (the footballers), Judie McCourt (People’s Postcode Lottery Street Prize Presenter) and Daisy Chain supporters (the volunteers) have all signed up to take on the biggest half marathon in the world to raise funds for the charity, which works with families who have children with autism.
Bernie and Micky have swapped football boots for running shoes to support colleague Judie who, as well as hosting her own radio programme, spends her time presenting local players with their winnings and local charities with huge cheques to support their work. People’s Postcode Lottery has already raised over £83,000 for the charity this year.
She said:
“The three of us have been tempted to have another go at one of the region’s leading fundraising events – the Great North Run.
“Mind you we didn’t need much persuading. Since People’s Postcode Lottery started to raise funds for Daisy Chain earlier this year I’ve been to visit quite a few times. Every time I visit and see the facilities on offer, hear about their plans for the future and recognise the needs of the families they work with I’m reminded what a great project it is, and I’m so proud to be involved- you’d have to have a heart of stone not to want to do something to help,” added Judie.
