Scotland child poverty still ‘unacceptably high’

In a new report entitled ‘Severe Child Poverty in Scotland 2010’, Save the Children have revealed that almost 10% of children in Scotland are living in families which have less than £33 a day to spend.

The report described how the poorest families in Scotland are £113 a week short of having enough to cover the basic and essential costs of family living.
Alex Neil, Communities Minister commented that the new statistics were “simply unacceptable”.
Child poverty is one of the many issues Scotland’s leading child welfare organisation, CHILDREN 1ST seeks to address, as described in this article.
CHILDREN 1ST is a Scottish based charity partner of the People’s Postcode Lottery.  The charity provides various support services for young people across Scotland, including protecting children from harm and neglect, and supporting families under stress.
