Top Tips to Help Tackle Climate Change
The Copenhagen Summit may be over but that doesn’t mean we can’t still try and do our bit for climate change. In fact,
small changes make a big difference, and you can start by making changes today. Easy and efficient, take a look at our top tips to do your bit for climate change
1.Not in use? Turn it off. That includes DVD players on standby, your computer when you’re not using it and you’ll save £’s! Check out your household energy consumption here
2.Turn down the heating- it might be freezing outside but you shouldn’t notice a 1c decrease, and the same with your hot water heating- you’re saving cash and the environment
3.Check the central heating timer setting – no one needs the heating at home when they’re out at work!
4.Make sure you put on a full load when you do any laundry-share washes with flatmates and you’ll save water, electricity and washing powder. And of course, if you can, don’t tumble dry clothes but hang them up on a drier
5.The same goes for your dish washer- do all your dirty dishes in a oner and use your dish washer at maximum capacity
6.A morning cup of tea is British traditions we won’t be parted from- but font fill the kettle to the brim if you’re brewing one just for yourself. Fill up only as much of you need, sit back and enjoy your cuppa guilt free!
7.Walk this way- could you walk or bus it rather than drive? Then do! And do one big weekly shop rather than driving to the supermarket a few times a week- or car chare with colleagues
8.Flying is, on occasion, something you can’t avoid. Of course, stay-cations in the UK can be just as fun, but if you do fly somewhere, offset your carbon emissions. It’s easy to do with most flight companies and doesn’t cost nearly as much as you’d think
9.Find the greenest energy supplier you can - they’ll supply electricity from renewable sources (e.g. wind and hydroelectric power) and this will reduce your carbon footprint contribution from electricity to zero
10.Think long term- fit energy saving light bulbs, insulate, recycle, and use an energy efficient condensing boiler
