Vote for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres as Smooth Radio’s first ever charity of the year!

Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres could be Smooth Radio’s charity of the year- and you can help get them there! Vote formaggies lonfon Maggie’s using the online poll on the Smooth Radio website and you could help make a real difference to the fantastic charity.

Starting from 16 November, Smooth Radio London will be playing clips featuring Maggie’s London Centre user Cathy Davies and Maggie’s Head of Community Fundraising, Natalie Morris. Cathy and Natalie will be making a case for why Maggie’s should be Smooth Radio’s first charity partner.

Cathy said: “My husband and I first visited Maggies centre in Hammersmith on 2nd June 2008 whilst I was in a terrible state of anxiety just after my surgery. We were greeted by Centre Head Bernie Byrne, who made us a cup of tea and chatted to us and explained so much about my condition and impacts of treatments.”

Cathy continued: “As well as being able to drop in to Maggie’s (no appointment is necessary), I have attended Support Group workshops, Nutrition workshops, Relaxation and Stress Management classes and also massage therapy. All very positive and practical things to help during treatment. I’ve also been able to make friends with people going through a similar experience to me and that has been a big help. Whenever I have difficulties or complications throughout my treatments I feel I will always be given the invaluable care and advice I need at Maggie’s.”

The partnership will help Maggie’s in so many ways, including increasing awareness of Maggie’s and the services the Centres provide, introduce new supporters and volunteers and raise £1,000 of vital funds for Maggie’s London centre based at Charing Cross Hospital.

Maggie’s London has received more than 20,000 visits since opening in April 2008. The centre costs £500,000 a year to run and a partnership with Smooth would help Maggie’s to develop their programme of support and help even more people living with cancer.
