At People’s Postcode Lottery, we spend a lot of time making dreams come true with big money wins for thousands of players all over Britain, but that’s not all we do.

Because we work for a charity lottery, we employees of People’s Postcode Lottery spend a lot of time with the charities and community projects that our players support. Here’s a little re-cap of what we’ve been doing over the last few weeks.

Some weeks back, we had a team day. It was an unconventional team day, but so much fun. We headed off to Lang Craigs in Dumbarton to plant 1,000 trees with one of our supported charities – Woodland Trust Scotland. We had so much fun, and it was a beautiful day to be working outside. It was great to know that we were all planting trees that would be there for hundreds of years to come, making the countryside more beautiful as well as being environmentally friendly at the same time! Our team members were also given the opportunity to dedicate one of the trees they planted to a loved one. The best part of course was that Woodland Trust Scotland named the new part of the forest “Postcode Grove!”

A few weeks later, a few of the team did some similar work gardening for Maggie’s Centre in Edinburgh. They needed some help tidying up the gardens and making them more presentable to preserve the lovely feeling of calm that visitors feel throughout the centre.

One thing which has been keeping us all very busy recently at Postcode Lottery HQ, is the work on the “Vote That Counts” campaign run by People’s Postcode Trust. This was a brilliant campaign which gave 6 North East charities the chance to compete for £30,000 in funding towards the wonderful work they do. It’s a great chance for them not only to secure funding, but also to get media coverage and attention helping them grow as a charity and for their work to be recognised. Our social media and charities team even helped train the 6 charities up on how best to use social media to help them gain support during the campaign. One really special thing about this campaign is that the public decide who wins, so people can really influence where funds raised go to.

Another exciting thing we’ve recently been involved with was a visit to Children North East, a wonderful charity which benefits disadvantaged young people across the region. We got to go and see how they spend the money raised by our players. What we saw was a wonderful service provided to young people enabling them to communicate, build confidence and relax with like-minded peers. Tim Healy of “Auf Wiedersehen, Pet” and “Benidorm” even popped in and gave us all a cookery lesson!

Players win prizes daily with People’s Postcode Lottery, and raise money at the same time. So far, over £21.3 Million has been raised for numerous charities and projects.
