WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 – be part of it!

WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 aims to unite the world’s people to demonstrate their concern about climate change. It’s time to show we care about the world – its natural environments, people and wildlife.

On Saturday 27 March 2010 at 8.30pm, people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour: WWF’s Earth Hour. WWF aims to reach over 1 billion people in 5,000 cities to encourage themto add their voices to the ever growing global call for action on climate change.

People across the world from all walks of life will join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet. 2010 is set to be the biggest Earth Hour yet – read on to find out more about how you can get involved.

Earth Hour 2009
WWF’s Earth Hour 2009 was hugely successful, reaching millions of people across the world. Iconic international landmarks including the Sydney Opera House, the Bird’s Nest stadium in China, the pyramids of Giza, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, Big Ben and Edinburgh Castle were all plunged into darkness for 60 minutes as part of the largest global action of its kind ever.

Be part of it in 2010!
WWF wants to make Earth Hour 2010 even bigger and better and you can help them achieve this! As well as signing up and switching off your lights, there are many ways you can get involved. Why not arrange an acoustic gig, host a candlelit dinner party, organise a movie night, get your company or club involved, or get your local to put on a pub quiz in the dark.

Spread the word! Add Earth Hour widgets to your blog and website or tweet your support, and join the Earth Hour fan page on facebook.

And of course, after the event, make sure you send stories and pictures of what you did on the night to scotland@wwf.org.uk. WWF will be posting photos and videos of the cities around the world as they turned out their lights soon so keep an eye out!
